Fear

Musings

That simple word evokes a plethora of emotions in people, me included.

You see, when fear comes into the equation, everything changes.

Fear of what? Failure? Rejection? Pain? Or perhaps, something even bigger than them all?

Fear of fear itself.

Fearing that fear will tear through one’s mental defences and chew its way into one’s heart, whispering discouraging things and spreading its nasty lies.

Bah, humbug.

KK Trip 2009

Photos

*Updated version* Dates might be inaccurate. Note: You could flip to the next page of the photosets, do not miss it. There are actually more photos for some photoset, just click on the red ‘Next Page‘ link on the bottom right below each set. P.S. a photoset is a small gallery of pictures by itself for a particular event, e.g. Sapi Island, KK Park etc. Keep your eyes peeled!

Day 1

We decided to go to KK after A2. Some of us went to Penang before that but on 29th July, we all met at KKIA at midnight. It was a very new experience for me, sleeping at the airport and practically free to do whatever you want. If you could ignore the patrolling security officers and some workers who apparently never needed to sleep, that is.

At 6a.m. our chartered van was already waiting for us. I did not realise Sabah gets sunlight so early. At 6.30a.m. the day was so bright it felt more like 8.00 a.m already. We went to have breakfast at some obscure coffee shop.

Then proceeded to Kinabalu Park straight after that.

We arrived at Kinabalu Park in the morning around 9a.m., there were a lot of foreign tourists. We never went up the mountain, leaving the challenge to Ming Lee and Kian Joo instead. So we visited the Botanical Garden and basically just walked around.

After that it was Kundasang. Basically nothing much to see, nothing interesting. We had lunch at a very, very dirty shop which was so full of flies. It was a wonder how we managed to eat.

Went to Poring Hot Spring after that. Had a blast at the Canopy Walk, the hot spring was really relaxing too. Since it is a public place, naturally there were a lot of people. A popular spot among locals it seems.

Arrived at KK late in the afternoon, checked in at Borneo Backpackers. Before that we stopped at a vantage point overlooking the city..

Borneo Backpackers was a really nice, comfortable place. Felt like home, with friendly staff, clean surroundings, great decor etc.

Had dinner that night at Sri Melaka Restaurant.

Day 2

Second day was a fun-filled day involving water activities. Went to Sutera Harbour Marina

From there we took a speedboat (included in package) to go to Manukan Island. Breathtaking sights, felt more like a resort though.

After that we headed straight to Sapi Island. Less people, less development, more nature.

Went back around 5p.m. to the marina

And that night, we feasted on fresh seafood. It was really worth it.

There were many other events which unfortunately, were either not captured on camera or I did not manage to transfer the photos in time. We went to the State Museum, 1Borneo Hypermall and some other places like the Filipino Market.

Came back on the 3rd of July, some went back on 2nd.

It was a really unforgettable experience. I doubt there will be another chance like it where we go to a place on vacation as a group, only us friends, sharing an unbreakable bond. I really treasure that sort of thing. Hope can have something like it again soon.

I’m back in Kuching

Life

Ironic, is it not? After 2 days in KL, here I am, typing away in the comfort of a little heaven I call home.

Not sure what to do next. There are just too many stuff to catch up on. I am voraciously reading books nowadays. This period of time is the best time to read all those books that I bought but never managed to finish.

Come to think of it, I think I am addicted to books. I get high on the smell of new books. Never get me near bookstores. Whenever I see MPH Bookstore I gravitate towards them like zombies high on caffeine. Like a zombie needing brains to feed on, but instead of “Braaaiiinnssss..” I call out “Boooooooksssss…”.

No wonder my allowance drained out so fast. I think I spent a lot on books.

Anyway, that’s all for my rant. I am getting the pictures of my vacation done and am trying to upload them into this blog as fast as I can. Want to make sure everything looks nice and dandy. Ciao~

RM500 for two signatures

Life

Forked out RM500 to get here just for two signatures.

Oh well, needed to do it anyway. Czech Republic Embassy needs to have our signature and presence before they could approve our visas. So we gathered at Dato’ Keramat LRT station and headed off to the embassy, which is located in a secluded neighbourhood. Difficult to find if you do not know the way.

Later we went to celebrate Phyllis’ birthday at KLCC. Had quite a blast wasting our times and walking around doing nothing.

I am going back tomorrow to Kuching. Hate to say it, but this will not be the last time I am going to say it..
